Lately I’ve been spending quite some time in Monopoli and every time I go, I always discover new little nooks hidden in the historical centre. On this particular day, I arrived just a little before lunch time and came across this simple yet traditional family-run alimentari. I was greeted with the warmest smile from the nonna behind the counter and quickly felt like I was part of the family.

Small alimentari in the heart of the historical town of Monopoli. This used to be the local grocery store of the neighbourhood where locals would come to buy their everyday produce. This family-owed business has kept that local feel and authenticity and offers daily charcuterie and cheese platters, panini, occasional hot dishes, and of course dry goods for purchase.

After a simple bite with some good wine, I headed along the coast of Monopoli. The color of the water was spectacular and even though it was still a little cold to have a swim, there was a mandatory feet dip in place! Of course, Dun Dun needed a full immersion to beat the heat and loved every second of it.

After soaking up some rays on the coast of Monopoli, it was time to head up the hill to Ostuni, known as the White City. The perfect way to explore Ostuni is to take different sets of stairs and to get lost in the lanes. There are some beautiful corners with lots of flowers, colourful doors, cafes, and stunning views of the landscape leading to the sea.

This door was made for me! Or was I made for this door? 😉
