There’s no sense in saying it- everyone knows- but I’ll do it anyway: lockdown measures are starting to grate on me.

Being stuck in a seaside village, unable to leave or see people- as idyllic and picturesque as it may sound- is getting quite trying. With Puglia being one of the worst regions when it comes to following lockdown measures and flattening that insatiable and unforgiving curve, we’re trapped.

So when the weather warmed and we were able to comfortably go for a walk, we jumped a the chance. I finally had a reason to get dressed, so I put on my favorite stripes for the outing.

Ok, you can start picturing the aforementioned idyllic and picturesque seaside environment now.

Even in non-pandemic situations, the few clean beaches around here would be deserted at this time of year. According to Italians, the sea is reserved for summertime temperatures of 30 and above. They wouldn’t be caught dead at the beach outside of the May-September window, unless they were walking their dogs. Needless to say, we had the place to ourselves. Just a 15 minute walk from home (or 45 minutes with sniffing, pooping, and territory marking), and freshly cleaned of the remains of countless nights of mischief by a recent storm, it was a perfect little getaway from the prison of self-imposed house arrest.

We found a strip of sand between the rocks and chose it as a fitting spot to get our usually lazy Dundun to do some much-needed exercise. We ran, we played, she chased me, I chased her, fun was had by all.

In the end, it was a great escape. We were happy to have the place to ourselves. And Dundun enjoyed leaving her mark on the unspoiled scenery.

Sea you soon.
