This year my husband and I decided that because we can’t do long trips, we would do mini, monthly weekend getaways. Together with some friends, we decided that February’s would be dedicated to a quick visit to the city of Naples, our first time here. We spent literally 24h in the city and absorbed as much of its chaotic charms as we could. We were lucky to have great weather and great company.

First stop, we dropped off our bags at our delightful midtown hotel and stepped out onto the balcony with its magnificent view of Castel Nuovo, the Certosa and the chaotic roads below.

After check-in, we hit the streets. The late afternoon made for some great lighting so we quickly headed out to take in some sights.

Just walking in the city of Naples, you can feel and experience the history the city once lived.

While at the Castel dell’Ovo we took in an art exhibition by Ottavia Tracagni. Some very inspired and imaginative drawings with great captions and stories.

Day 2 had lots of walking. We made our way up to Vomero via the funicular, where we had some great views of the city. Spacca Napoli was clearly visible and we could see just how far Napoli extends (which is pretty far).

After a trip to see the Veiled Christ (where cameras are not allowed), we continued on our journey to an Andy Warhol exhibition. Set in a magnificent old church, the Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore della Pietrasanta, we didn’t know whether to look at the Warhol art or the religious art on the walls.

The trip was brief but very exciting and fun. Even though I didn’t manage to see and do everything, I still think I managed to capture the essence of the city.
